Gambia Methodist Academy, comprising parents, teachers, pupils and friends, recently honored their outgoing principal in different ceremonies at the school.

During a farewell ceremony at GMA for Mr. Emmanuel Amponsah Kogyan Owusu, their principal, spoke on the surprises the PTA have given him. He says, “PTA is a real partnership although PTAs are often difficult but ours has been very good”.

Mr. Owusu recounted how he came to The Gambia after he was recruited. Speaking on the challenges he said if someone gives you a plot of land and you manage to let it bloom is a smaller challenge but when Mr. Goode prepared the school and left and I took over, it becomes a real and big challenge.

Mr. Owusu stood high to praise their achievements and recounted how they won the president’s competition defeating Marina International to emerge in first place. “We have put a structure in place with the help of the PTA. The PTA donated D290, 000.” Parents have always fought tooth and nail to bring their children to Gambia Methodist Academy. He said.

Mr. Alpha Khan, PTA chair, said Mr. Owusu served the school meritoriously in the past years. The school remarked how Mr. Owusu started as a Math’s and Science teacher and in 1997 he became a senior teacher and served as Vice Principal from ‘99 to 2001 and became principal in 2001. He held this position until the present day. He wished him good luck on behalf of the PTA. The teachers and students also presented gifts to him at different times.
