Coach Tony Hey Signs in LiberiaWednesday, February 27, 2008 Information gathered by our sports desk reveals that one of the applicants for the position of head coach of Lone Star, German Coach Antoine Tony Hey, is now in the picture to take over the affairs of the national football team of Liberia, the Lone Star. The information further said that the German coach has been preferred over his colleagues who also traveled from Italy to sit for the interview for the Lone Star head coach position. Although sports authorities have not confirmed this information, sources close to sports experts who conducted the interview told this paper that the 37-year-old German has already been given the go-ahead to take over the affairs of the national team along with veteran Liberian coach Kadala Kromah as deputy. The officials are to assume the positions as part of the government’s effort to ensure that the Lone Star qualification for the 2010 World Cup and Cup of Nations in Angola are secured. Coach Tony Hey is one of the two foreign coaches who applied and sat the interview before a panel of Liberian sports experts. The other foreign coach, Roberto Landi from Italy, arrived in the country on Monday, February 4, 2008 and sat his interview on Wednesday the 6th of February at the Ministry of Youth and Sports (MYS). When officially accredited by the MYS and the Liberia Football Association (LFA), Antoine Tony Hey will immediately commence his job as of next month. His job, many claim, would be a difficult task especially in the area of scouting Liberian players in and out of the country for possible recruitment into the nation’s pride and joy, the Lone Star. It has not also been confirmed as to how many years the German coach will be signing for but information says that he has been given a challenge to qualify the nation for the 2010 African Cup of Nations to be held in Angola and the World Cup slated for South Africa. Several sports pundits have described the move by the government to appoint a foreign coach to steer the affairs of the national team as prudent and timely, but considered the time frame as very limited to prepare a winning team. They have however expressed confidence in the ability of the number of young talents Liberia has and are optimistic that with a better collection and coordination, Liberia can put up a surprise. “If Namibia can get a foreign coach then what more about Liberia who has produced a former African, European and World Best player; recognition no country has ever achieved,” they added. Kanakpai - Monrovia, Liberia Wednesday, May 28, 2008 7:20 AM I will want give courage to the coach for at least coming to take over the Lone Star Team as coach. I am very pride of that, becuase over the years Liberia has been suffering for coach which I think was one of the problem for the Lone Star Team. I will also want to advice the new coach that he should be very committed when it comes to our game because Liberian are angry to win this coming game scheduled for June 1, 2008 at SKD Sport Complex. I wish my country a very big wining over the Gambian Team this Sunday.
I will also want signal to the Ministry of Youth & Sports about being serious about Liberia Football this time and give full supports to the team. I will also want to thank Liberia Government for attention to football by making sure that Liberia have a new and international coach. Henderick A. Kanakpai - Monrovia, Liberia Wednesday, May 28, 2008 7:30 AM My comment mainly go to the Liberian Government and Sports Lovers of Liberia that we should do everything possible for Liberia to be standard when comes to football in Africa because when I look at other country football activities is very stardard to the extent that you fine football academic and college for football, but there is nothing here like that in Liberia. So this time, let the Ministry of Youth & Sports do something about it. Not to collect money and spent it but think how can liberia football be improve.
Thanks, I Love Libera Lone Star Anonymous - Monrovia, Liberia Wednesday, May 28, 2008 7:47 AM I will to comment mainly again on the New Liberia Lone Star goalkeeper. While do not carry Boye Pratt who is known to be one of the best goalkeeper now in Liberia? Is it because of what? I want you to please broadcast my comment about the goalkeeper. I want to see Boye Pratt in the goal for this coming or if not, then let it be consider that we should leave Boye Pratt. Let him leave the team as goalkeeper. I trust him than the other.
But that does not mean that the present goalkeeper is not good but it is just something that i am expressing about this goalkeeper. Thank Mr. Kanakpai Charles McGill - Washington, United States Tuesday, July 15, 2008 9:28 AM I'm very glad that the Lone Star of Liberia had gotten a foreign coach that will manage the team and impromvement the training of players. Most of our players in Lone Star are willing to be an execellent player but the government is not putint in more money and providing facilities for them to focus only on playing soccer as their career. The players are not pay enough wage taht could make them self sufficient to take good care of their family. The coach should not only focus on those 0ld Lone Star players, but to extend his search of new young players from the thirteenth counties of Liberia to be trained for the new Lone Star and the new Liberia. Thanks.
