The two appeared before magistrate Buba Jawo on suspicion of jointly assaulting one Mumini Touray by beating him all over his body thereby causing him injuries. They denied the charge and were each granted bail in the sum of D50,000 and must produce a surety who must be a Gambian. The duo; both residents of Sukuta village in Kombo North, would now be tried for an alleged offence of obtaining D150,000 from one Adama Sidibeh on promise to double the sum to D300,000. When Hamat and Gibou were arraigned before magistrate Buba Jawo on Tuesday and their ‘offence’ read and translated to them in a local language, they denied the charge and were consequently given bail in the sum of D100,000 as the case proceeds. Author: By Njie Baldeh & Malamin Conteh Source: The Point Bundung Borehole Chef de Garage, Two Others Charged![]() Tuesday, October 30, 2007 The man, who many taxi drivers at the Bundung Borehole garage look up to for direction, is currently in trouble with the laws of the land. Mamady Saidy, the Chef de Garage of Bundung Borehole, was last Thursday charged alongside two others for allegedly violating the Laws of The Gambia. Mamadi, Ebrima Janneh and Essa Sanyang were late last week charged with assault and battery as well as causing wilful damage to property. The trio, according to court records, on 16 April of last year, assaulted one Mbye Joof by beating him all over his body thereby causing him actual bodily harm. The records also had it that the trio, on the aforementioned date and at Bundung Borehole garage, wilfully damaged the windscreen of Mbye Joof’s car but when the charge sheet was read and interpreted to them in Mandinka, they all denied the allegations. However, to enable them gain their liberty in the meantime, each was granted bail at the sum of D10,000 and must produce a Gambian, who must fulfil the bail conditions, as surety. The case, presided over by magistrate J. George, resumes November 6. Author: By Njie Baldeh Source: The Point Son to Return to Court for Threatening to Kill Father![]() Monday, October 29, 2007 Basiru Janneh, a resident of Bundung, will in the penultimate month of this year return to the Bundung Magistrates’ Court as his trial over charges of threatening to kill his father takes centre-stage. He was on Tuesday arraigned before magistrate Buba Jawo on suspicion of threatening to take the life of his father, causing willful damage to property and common assault. Basiru, according to the facts of the matter, assaulted his father by beating him all over his face. He was also alleged of damaging the door and window glasses his father as well as threatening to kill him. He pleaded not guilty to the charges and is expected back in court on 13 November 2007. Author: By Nfamara Jawneh Source: The Point 18-month Jail Term for Guinean![]() Tuesday, October 23, 2007 The Bundung Magistrates’ Court, chaired by Buba Jawo, on Tuesday of last week dished out an 18-month jail term to a Guinean national but was given an opportunity of paying a court fine to foil his imprisonment. Momodou Yerro Jallow was sometime in September of this year found in possession of a pedal bicycle in Tabokoto and in suspicious circumstances. When he appeared before magistrate Jawo at the Bundung Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, Jallow admitted responsibility for the offence and was consequently convicted and sentenced ‘accordingly’. Author: By Njie Baldeh Source: The Point Briton charged for killing two![]() Friday, October 19, 2007 A British national has been charged with murder, following a tragic road accident that claimed the lives of two Gambians on September 24. Steven Scott was recently arraigned before Senior Magistrate Buba Jawo of the Bundung Magistrates’ Court, where the trial has been taking place. According to the prosecution, Steven Scott drove a vehicle (registration no. MGSI) in a rash and negligent manner, on the Senegambia Highway, leading to the death of Anta Keita and Awa Fatty, a 12-year-old girl. However, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him. The presiding Senior Magistrate Jawo then granted the Briton a court bail, to a sum of D2 million, with Gambian sureties, one of whom must be in possession of a compound within the Greater Banjul Area. Author: by Salifu M Touray Source: The Daily Observer Newspaper Accused referred to psychiatric unit![]() Thursday, October 18, 2007 Senior Magistrate Buba Jawo of the Bundung Magistrates’ Court, has ordered one Momodou Ndow to undergo psychiatric examination, before taking his plea on charges of wilful and unlawful damages of property and assault. Momodou is facing two count charges of smashing the rare wind screen of a vehicle belonging to the Gambia Police Force, with a registration number GPF 6FFI; and assaulting one Momodou Jallow with a stick, and thereby causing him actual bodily harm on 11 September 2007, at Willigara. Momodou who appeared in a court full to capacity, made them to laught when he hid himself in the dock and later complained of being mentally ill. Senior Magistrate Buba Jawo ruled that the accused should be sent for examination at Campama since he alleged to be mentally disturbed. The case was then adjourned. Touray Source: The Daily Observer Newspaper Woman convicted![]() Tuesday, October 16, 2007 Amie Ceesay, a resident of Bundung was on Tuesday convicted and sentenced to a fine of 7,500, after pleading guilty on charges of assault, before Senior Magistrate Buba Jawo of the Bundung Magistrates’ Court. According to the particulars of offence, on 15 September 2007, at Bundung in the Kanifing Municipality, Amie Ceesay, did unlawful assaulted one Isatou B Jallow, by pouring hot water on her, thereby causing her actual bodily harm. Amie Ceesay, who pleaded guilty to the offence in her mitigation, begged the court to have mercy on her, saying it’s a mistake. Handing his verdict, Magistrate Jawo told Amie Ceesay that her action was deliberate and must not go scot-free. “On your own guilty plea and first time offender, you are convicted and sentenced to a fine of D5,000, in default to serve one year in Jail” Magistrate Jawo told the accuse. He further ordered her to compensate the victim with D2,500, in default to serve another six months imprisonment. All the sentences run consecutively. Sergeant 712 Samateh stood in for the IGP. Author: by Salifu M Touray Source: The Daily Observer Newspaper Court Registrar Sentenced![]() Monday, October 08, 2007 Ebrima Ceesay and Karamo Cham, both Assistant Law Court Registrars, were recently sentenced by Principal Magistrate Moses Richards for fraudulent practices. The accused persons were charged with stealing by servant and clerk between October and November 2005 as Court Registrars at Bundung. The first accused, Ebrima Ceesay, has since absconded the jurisdiction and his joint collaborator, Karamo Cham, was sentenced to pay D10,000.00 (Ten thousand dalasis) in default to serve one year six months in addition to a fine of D7,000.00 as compensation to one Anna Sankis, in default one year imprisonment. The convict was found guilty after a probe into a missing D7,000.00 being an installment for a D10, 000 that was supposed to be in installment of D3, 000 and D7, 000, which amount was for Anna Sankis. The monies were paid by Amadou Manga who was convicted at Bundung Magistrates Court for rash and negligent driving and subsequently fined D10, 000. Official receipts were issued to the payer but the D7, 000 was not recorded in the court records. Later investigation revealed that during the handing over when Karamo Cham was taking over from predecessor Ebrima Ceesay, rough handing over list was detected, and some alteration on the handing over list while the convict, Karamo Cham, knew fully well that the handing over list involved some fraudulent entries. Sergeant 870 represented the IGP.

Yaya Leigh had admitted responsibility for causing a road accident by veering into a stationary car at the roadside in Tabokoto and at a time when he was without valid driving license.
