It is an unequivocal fact that sports, particularly football, is inseparable with finance which is a pre-requisite to acquiring gears.

In this respect, former Gambia Football Association regional second division coach for North Bank, Adama Sonko, has ploughed back his wisdom to boost the morale of his Woodloes Football Academy in Essau.

During his sojourn in the UK, Sonko was with the company of Tesco in Emscote road where he met Woodloes Junior manager, Liz Wrist, who was also working at Tesco. Sonko was introduced to the Woodloes Academy Under –13 side and started working hard to gain recognition in the football academy. Because of his dedication, the Woodloes Academy management recommended him to take up the Under 13 side.

Back home in Essau, the former Regional Coach has reciprocated his Woodloes Academy in the form of sporting gears. The gears came as a donation from the UK-based Woodloes from their last season’s strips.
Woodloes Football Academy in Essau, formerly called ‘Sonko’ adopted the name as a sign of appreciation from the gifts received from Woodloes.

In handing over the sports gear in December, Sonko expressed his gratitude to Liz and the Woodloes Football Academy for the gesture they have extended to his Essau side. According to him the items would go a long way to motivating his youngsters to improve their skills and talents in football.

Sonko however, used the occasion to caution his lads to jealously take care of the materials.

Speaking to the team captain after the handing over, Faburama Sanneh commended the donors adding that the gears have come at a time when they were most needed.

The materials include 16 shirts, 16 pairs of shorts, 32 pairs of socks as well as 20 footballs and an assortment of football boots.

A friendly football match between Woodloes Football Academy and Barra Youth Football Academy which ended 1-1was staged in appreciation of the gesture.
