Titi Due in Banjul on October 17th

Titi, One of the female Super Mbalax Stars in the Senegambian region, is expected to land in the soil of Banjul this month.

The Senegalese super star would be accompanied by her highly talked about group.

According to information supplied to Entertainment by the President’s Award winning DJ, Lamin Cham, the good-looking super artist will be performing live on Friday 17, 2008 at Brikama Jokor.

She will also be performing on Saturday 18 October at the Jamma Hall at Kairaba Hotel, before ending it at Jokor Westfield on Sunday.

Viviane Ndour Due in Banjul October, 10

One of the Senegalese female super mbalax artists, Vivian Ndour, is expected to land on Gambian soil after Ramadan. The Senegalese artist’s visit is organised by The Gambia Ports Authority as Operation Promotion Excellence in Sciences OPES.

Upon arrival on Friday the 10, Vivian Ndour is expected to perform live on Gala night the 11th October, 2008. There will be a grand Dance on the 12th October, 2008; a live show with Vivian Ndour featuring prominent Gambian artists, Entertainment was reliably informed.

Female Mbalax Artist Needs Support

[endif]An experienced Gambian Female mbalax artist, Magigen Secka, who started playing music in 1984 has called on President Jammeh and other organisations to come to her aid in order to release an album.

Magigen Secka is poised to take the music buying public by storm by releasing three singles proudly sponsored by herself. The singles entitled Yahya Jammeh, election victory by President Jammeh and under seventeen respectively.

Briefing Entertainment at her attractive residence in Banjul, The long-time female artist said during her music career, she visited three countries, USA, UK and Senegal as part of an invitation by the
Yeteh Dramma Group. The experienced female artist has not released any album yet due to a lack of sponsorship.

Touching on the congress, which was held at the Paradise Suites Hotel, The Banjul- born artist revealed that the congress was organised to unite artists in the country and to know their aims and objectives in the music industry.

Magigen Secka formed an association called Nafa Association, which is purposely designed to unite all Gambian female artists and work for the development of the music industry.

Afro-Mandingo sound revisited

The Alliance Franco-Gambienne (AFG) in Serrekunda was last Saturday turned into a music groove as Dembadu, a band which is based in Sukuta, churned out four hours of continuous music. With a wide repertoire of songs melodiously derived from the Afro-Mandingo sound, Dembadu has plunged the plubic into the glorious of Guelewar Jazz Band and Ifamondy Jazz Band.

Dembadu Band’s musicians powerfully expressed their creative potential with a tremendous musical power that swayed and moved the capacity audience till the early hours of Sunday morning.

Toul Berro and his friends treated the audience with a combination of diverse styles and traditions that appeared to have a soul. Despite the fact that Gambia’s musical identity has been diluted with Mbalax, Dembadu Band certaintly constitutes the last citadel of hope.

Masané, others on stage tonight

Report reaching What’s On, has indicated that The Senegalese international female star of recent times, Masané  and the  "Waflash" band are expected to thrill mbalax  fans tonight  in an extra-ordinary style at Brikama Jokor, Western Region.

The Senegalese international mbalax star will appear on stage alongside few other Gambians sprountig stars namely Nancz Nancz aka  Gambian Beyoncy, Ndey Cham, Jaye Mbaye, and Deeha among others.

The show will move to Dream Park, the newest entertainment spot near Senegambia on Saturday while Jokor Garden aka the university of Mumbai will be on fire on Sunday June 15 2008.

According to Lamin Cham of Champion Sound Promotions, the organisers of the show described it as another  timely one when mbalax have long being waiting for.

Cham noted that  Masané  is really a big star of the moment adding that  this week mbalax fans in the country will have a weekend full of enjoyment.

According to him, the Senegalese female mbalax star  hot stage appearance couple with her melodious voice is just great.

It could be recalled that, this will be Masané’s second public appearance after staging a cloudburst show at the Dream Park near Senegambia some weeks ago. Meanwhile, this show will give the Senegalese star opportunity to entertained her fans with hit tunes in her latest album. So don’t wait to be told as all roads lead to Jokor Brikama tonight.

Baba Mall in town for weekend celebration

After long wait, the Senegalese Mbalax celebrity, Baba Mall, has already jetted into the country for a weekend celebration of music.

Baba Mall, whose sonorous voice helped bring Mbalax music to international ears, will be performing live alongside the famous Gambian koraist, Jaliba Kuyateh, Pa Omar Jack of Fish & Chips fame and Afro Manding Queen, Sambou Suso.

The show will jump-start today at Brikama Jokor and then Paradise Suites Hotel on Saturday. On Sunday, Jokor at Westfield intersection is expected to be virtually bursting at its seams as Baba Mall concludes the weekend celebration of music.

Baba Maal due in town soon

Reports reaching What’s On indicated that the Senegalese born Mbalax star Baba Maal and his band will hold a big live concerts in The Gambia next week.

The three-day fun-filled event is exclusively organised by The Mighty Champion DJ Lamin Cham of the Champion Sound Promotions and is geared towards promoting Senegambian artistes and music through culture.

During the course of the concerts, the Senegalese superstar is will perform, alongside three other prominent Gambian stars namely, The Gambia’s Kora maestro Jaliba Kuyateh and his Kumareh Band, Sambou Suso, the melodious voice of Manding and The Gambia’s Mbalax sensation Pa Omar Jack, fondly called ‘Mr Fish and Chip’.

They are expected to perform live at Jokor Brikama, Paradise Suites Hotel near Senegambia and Jokor Westfield on May 9, 10 and 11th.

Speaking in an interview with What’s On, the Champion DJ said all the venues are set ahead of the big come-back show.

"As you known our young stars are full of talents. Remember that the Senegalese Mbalax star (Maal) is coming with full force to rock the city," he said.

According to him, bringing Senegalese artistes to The Gambia is another efforts towards cementing the bilateral between the two countries, noting that this will also enable Gambian music enthusiasts to have a taste of Senegalese artistes who are making headlines in Europe and in Americas.

Ndey Cham’s album finally out

After a long delayed, the much talked about album “Njall” of Ndey Cham, a young Gambian female Mbalax star was out in the market last week.

Recorded at Alliance Franco Gambia Studio, this new album entitled  Njall was exclusively sponsored by Africell, The Gambia’s leading GSM service provider.

Njall cotains six tracks and a bonus track which is currently in big-boom in almost all the recording studios in the Greater Banjul Area.

Among the hit tunes in this album, includes a track dedicated to the late Alhagie Sankung Sillah (Njall), Jigeeni-Gambia, Mam Bamba, Ndawi Teyi and Buldem among others.

One of the hit tunes during the FiFa U-20 world cup called  “Road to Canada” is one of her singles that stormed the entire music industry at that time.

The road to Canada single by the young star put her on the spotlight .

Speaking to What’s On, Ndey Cham revealed that her career in music date back as far as in 1996 when she started advertisement on both the National Radio and TV noting that she also  write songs and participate in drama competitions.

“ My first single was called “Bulldem” meaning “Don’t go” in 1996. This track really rocked the music industry and this triggered a lot to admire me” she said.

Commenting on her Africell sponsorship package, Ndey Cham revealed that it was her road to Canada clip that motivated  the management of Africell to sponsor my album .

She further revealed that the sponsorship packages will last for two years .

According to her, she took part in the famous Nothinghill carnival held in the United Kingdom sometime ago, where  she performed alongside with other artistes from around the world.

Mohamed, the manager of the young sprouting talent, said plans are currently in the offing for the young star to performed with a live band.

According to him, they have so far produced about 500 copies and can be found in almost all the recording studios in the Greater Banjul Area.

“ The album was ready since 2005 but due to financial constraints the release of the album was delayed. I want to tell her fans that, let them go out for her latest album as it is on high demand. I wish to thanked Africell for a job well done and let them keep up the good momentum,” he said.

In  2008, Ndey Cham received a prestigious award as the best dressed  female artist , organised by Gam-Spirit  Music award at a ceremony held at the Kairaba Beach Hotel.

Le Setsima Group Set for Weekend of Thrills

Few hours after sunset today, Brikama Jokor is expected to rise above nature in a magnificent grandeur.

At about 9pm local time tonight, no-one in Brikama will be left in doubt about the emerging fun-filled night as Alioune Mbaye Nder blows the mind of the audience at Brikama Jokor with his unique strong voice and orchestrated dance steps.

Tomorrow, the newly crowned King of Mbalax will stage another concert at the stately hall of Jama Hall of Kairaba Beach Hotel.

After sunset on Sunday, Jokor Westfield will come alive as Nder and his Le Setsima Group treats party-people to exciting tunes from their repertoire.

Organized by Njoofen Desire, Kharoum Aluminium and DBC Quality Design are co-sponsors of the shows.

Alioune Mbaye Nder Poised for Night of Fun-fare

Brikama Jokor is, on May 25th, expected to be virtually bursting at its seams as party people from various parts of Western Region and beyond throng Brikama’s premier entertainment point for a night of fun-fare with Alioune Mbaye Nder.

The newly crowned king of Mbalax will, later this month, arrive in Banjul for three-day explosive concerts at various locations in the country. Invited by New Desire Njoofen, Alioune Mbaye Nder will first assume the center-stage on May 25that Brikama Jokor and then the exquisite Jama Hall on May 26th. Jokor Westfield at the Westfield interjection will get busy on May 27thas the Mbalax maestro crowns his journey of entertainment.
