Author: by Nanama Keita Tigers are SK West Super Cup championsMonday, August 11, 2008 Two goals from Real De Banjul's Babucarr Badjan, one in each half, earned Knock Out Cup Champions Tigers of Kotu Quarry their first ever Super Cup championship against League Cup winners, Kanifing United, at Serrekunda West on Saturday. The game, which was the first assignment of Coach Sang Ndong-led interim sports committee, saw hundreds of football fans standing in all four corners of the SK West Mini Stadium. Babucarr Badjan, the subsequent hero of the day, squandered a golden chance just ten minutes into the game when he fired blank a shot from strike partner Saikou Gibba. As if all was not lost, Badjan made amends few minutes later by blasting a right-footed shot from the corner to register his first goal in 15th minute. The Tigers frenzied fans went wild by invading the pitch and jubilating their lead. Kanifing United, who were always Tigers threat as they defeated them in all previous encounters in the past years, were no match to their opponents this time around as their creativity and goal chances were nullified at every move they make by defenders Timothy Colley, Baboucar Manga, Alagie Jatta and abdou Ceesay thus adding frustration on the faces of strikers Wadan Chune, Azziz Mendy and James Mballo. Kanifing did all they could to change the tide by introducing Baba Conteh, Muhamad Tunkara, Ali Ceesay, Hali Njie for Ansumana Sanneh, Sulayman Camara, Sheriff Jobe and Denilson Dafaris but to no avail. Badjan brought more woes to the Kanifing United side by dribbling pass all his markers and taking a low shot midway into the game for his second thus ushering his team's chance for their first ever Super Cup. Kanifing United struggled to pull one back to console themselves but the chanting and shouting from the Tigers fans only rendered them powerless and made them resign to fate by succumbing to their opponents. Kanifing United went home with four thousand dalasis as runners up while Tigers proudly lifted the coveted giant trophy plus seven thousand dalasi as champions. Saturday’s final was graced by the GFA President, Seedy Kinteh, who took the kick-off, community leaders among other distinguished persons. Author: by Bezenty Gomez Wallidan and Samger share spoils![]() Monday, July 07, 2008 Front-runners, Wallidan and Samger, fought a tooth-and-nail goalless draw last night at a crowded Serrekunda West Community Stadium, as the race for the GFA division one league crown gets more complicated and fascinating. The stalemate result, which was rather a good news to ears of Hawks faithfuls, means both Wallidan and Samger are still level on points (36 points a piece) at the top, with the former having a two-goal leverage over the latter. Close contenders, Hawks, can join them at the top to renew a three-horse race if they can beat Steve Biko today at the Independence Stadium. Yesterday’s result, which was a repeat of their first-round score line, left both coaches optimistic of clinching the title. Wallidan coach, Foday Bah, told Observer Sports shortly after the final whistle that winning the title in still on the card, though they will meet a much matured team in Hawks in the final match. “It was a good game and I am going to congratulate Samger for good their display,” he said. “We are meeting Hawks in our final match and we are going to prepare for them and I am optimistic that we are going to beat them and claim the title.” His counterpart, Jane Joof, is also confident that Samger will lift the crown in the face of the big guns. “Statistically, we are very much in the frame compared to our fellow contenders. Wallidan will next play against Hawks who are also in the title race, and we are facing a side (Steve Biko) who are not. So I think we have it in our own hands,” he said. Author: by Nanama Keita Wallidan lose, Samger win -Title race gets more complicated![]() Tuesday, July 01, 2008 Shocking results marred the Week Twenty matches of the GFA division one league last evening with Samger beating Real de Banjul 2-1 at the Independence Stadium, while Wallidan subdued to Bakau United 1-0 at the Serrekunda West Mini-stadium. The surprise results throw the title race wide open, with any of the three teams, Wallidan, Samger and Hawks, having the chance to emerge as the champion. Two first-half goals from Sulayman Badjie and Buba Jallow were enough for Samger to keep alive their title dream, and in effect end Real de Banjul’s hope of defending the crown. Samger are now levelled on points with Wallidan at the top, but the latter still enjoy a two-goal advantage, while Hawks, who drew 1-1 with Armed Forces on Saturday, lie two points below them. Samger coach Jane Joof could not hide his delight after both fixtures went his way last night. “Beating Real de Banjul here and Wallidan losing to their opponents at the other end is a very good news for us. It means that we can still win the title and we will give it our best to ensure that we take the title,” coach Joof told Observer Sports shortly after the final whistle yesterday. Samger will next face Wallidan on Sunday, July 6, and coach Joof believes this tie could decide the destiny of the title. “We are meeting Wallidan next weekend and this match could decide our fate. So we are going to prepare for that match knowing fully that it won’t be an easy match,” he said. Meanwhile, Week Twenty matches will continue today with Sea View taking on Sait Matty-Africell at the Independence Stadium. Steve Biko will take on Ports Authority tomorrow at the same venue in the last set of Week Twenty fixtures. Part OneThursday, May 15, 2008 It’s yet another year the president of the republic of the The dialogue with the people this year is took a different angle from the ones before. Right from start in the one’s , before this one, President jammeh is on record of saying that he was disappointed by Gambians electorates by not voting for him massively in the last Presidential election, he felt not treated fairly because he deserves more votes as a sign of appreciation by Gambians. In the previous dialogue he told the people that he and his government have brought much progress and developments that would have been impossible without him and his government. He sited the Barra/ Laminkoto road, the bridge at kerewan and not to talk of the numerous health facilities and schools. For him it means such developments are not appreciated by the people whom those developments are meant for. Again the President is on record threatening Gambians oppositions not taking any development to them. It was at one of the meetings during the meet the people dialogue at the North bank that Jammeh told a large audience that –There will be no development for people who do not vote for him. Some critics felt that the President got it all wrong – No President can speak like that. That No President no matter how rich he/she is , uses his personal money to develop a nation .Rather it’s the tax payers money which is use to develop the nation . In tax collection, all taxes are collected be it that of pro-government supporters or opposition people. So is it fair to deny some the benefits of their money? No no Mr. President so it’s only fair to give people what is worth of their taxes no matter what political affiliations they have. Mr. President how would you also tell, who voted for you or not., say in a constituency. For example it’s not possible to have a 100% APRC vote or a100% opposition vote –so if a particular constituency is denied development because it’s an opposition control constituency do the pro- government electorates deserve a punishment? No Mr. President with all fairness you are running the country with people’s taxes and not your personal wealth you are only privilege to be elected as President and that is why you are entrusted with the monies of the tax payers. Coming to the 2008 dialogue with the people tour its rather encouraging that no such threats are said for now. One can only ask you to keep it up.
