Eskom is ripping us off as customers, I mean 26.7% salary increase to their CEO and expect to recover those costs from us by way of increasing their tariffs. Rhodes is in a difficult position. In terms of the current remuneration review (which is the subject of the strike), the striking workers come out proportionally better than their non-striking counterparts. As a result, if Rhodes gives into the NEHAWU strike, the administrative staff (grades 7-14) are likely to strike and that'd be fundamentally more crippling. - view story - reply The students are now starting their own strike not that they're part of NEHAWU but they're showing the university that they're not happy about the current situation, I'm also a student at Rhodes and our residences are not in good condition, the food we eat and studying with noise outside the lecture room. - view story - reply Lindy I must strongly disagree with you on all points. The strike has been anything BUT orderly, with people running around, trashing campus, overturning guard boxes, vandalizing cars and harassing students. Lectures have been disrupted, with a students being pulled out of a lecture theatre during an Accounting lecture. At one point, staff had to barricade students into their lecture venues to keep them safe from the raucous crowd outside. Lastly, students were striking today not in support of the strikers, but to plead that the matter get resolved so that they can get back to studying! response to: Nehawu threatens to step up impact of Rhodes strike
