Monday, March 03, 2008

Under the patronage of their Majesties, King Abdullah II and Queen Rania of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the country will be hosting the fourth international World Conference on Women and sport.

Jointly organised by the International Olympic Committee, in partnership with Jordan Olympic Committee, the conference will kick off on the 8th of March and run until the 10th of March 2008.

The theme of the conference is ‘Sport as a vehicle for social change.’

The opening ceremony of the event will witness the presentation of the 2008 IOC women and sports Trophy to IOC women and sport Trophy winners from Africa, America, Asia, Europe and Oceania.

The conference will look at women and the Olympic Movement, what it takes to be a female leader in today’s world, sports and business: targeting a larger female participation.

Another interesting topic which will be discussed is Sports considerations in sponsorship and is expected to be moderated by Ms Beatrice Allen first Vice President of The Gambia National Olympic Committee and member of the IOC Women and Sports Commission.

The programme, which is expected to be an exciting one, will also looked at other important issues including the benefits of female participation in sports, promoting equality of access at community level and meeting the challenges of Millennium Development Goals involving the contributing of women and girls.

At the end of the conference, a presentation of the final recommendations made by participants will be made.
