D20, 000 Bail Bond For Assailant

One Banna Ceesay of Tabanani village, Central River Region, was recently granted court bail in the sum of D20, 000 for the assault causing grevious bodily harm.

Mr Ceesay was arraigned before the Central River Region Travelling Magistrate Amadou Baldeh for causing grevious bodily harm, contrary to Section 214 of the Criminal Code cap 10 volume III laws of The Gambia.

According to the particulars of the offence, on 18th April 2008 at Tabanani village the accused person deliberately caused serious bodily harm to one Ma-sanneh Ceesay.

He denied the charge before the case was adjourned until 22nd September 2008.

In a related but separate development, one Ebrima Touray was also arraigned before the Central River Region travelling Magistrate Amadou Baldeh on a charge of careless driving.

According to the particulars of the offence, on 2nd June 2008 at Nije Kunda Juncture in the Lower Fulladu in the Central River Region South, the accused drove a motor vehicle with registration number BJL 2127C Benz without efficient breaking system there- by causing an accident.

He denied the charge.

He was granted court bail in the sum of D7000 before the case was adjourned until 22nd September 2008.

D100,000 Bail Bond For Alleged Vehicle Thief

One Haruna Camara was on the 26th August 2008 granted court bail in the sum of D100, 000 by Senior Magistrate Abdoulie Mbackeh of the Kanifing Magistrates Court. Haruna Camara is standing trial for allegedly stealing a motor vehicle.

The bail conditions further stipulated that he should produce two Gambian sureties, one of whom should be in possession of a valued D100, 000 landed property with title deed, which should be deposited to the court.

The alleged offence revealed that on 16th July 2008 at Serekunda, the accused stole a motor vehicle (Renault van) 14 passengers with registration number BJL 9516, being the property of one Ebrima Sanyang. He denied the charge.

Hearing continue.

Ex-GCAA Accountant Granted D5M Bail Bond

The embattled former accountant of Gambia Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) Lamin Njie has been granted a five million dalasis court bail.

He was yesterday granted bail in the said sum with two Gambians with landed properties within the Greater Banjul Area, who must deposit their title deeds and identity cards as sureties.

Mr Lamin Njie is standing trial for allegedly stealing four million nine hundred thousand, being the property of the Gambia Government, a charge he denied.

According to the particulars of the offence, between January 2005 and December 2007, while working for GCAA, Mr Lamin Njie stole the sum of D4, 900,000.00.

The presiding magistrate, Pa Harry Jammeh adjourned the case until 15th September 2008 for continuation.

D60,000 Bail Bond for alleged Fraudster

The Bundung Magistrates’ Court on Monday remanded one Modou Jawo on bail in the sum of D60, 000 for allegedly obtaining money by false means.

According to the particulars of the offence the accused Modou Jawo on the 11th February 2008, at Kololi, obtained from one Yusupha Trawally the sum of D55, 000 with the representation that he owned the green Peugeot vehicle 404, such representation he knew to be false.

He denied the charge before the case was adjourned to the 26th August, 2008 for hearing.

D50,000 bail bond for alleged counterfeiter

Abdou Kudus Jobe, a resident of Serekunda, was yesterday given bail at the tune of D50,000 for being found in possession of counterfeited banknotes.

The Bundung Magistrates’ Court, to be chaired by Kumba Sillah- Camara, will try Abdou Kudus on charges of possession of D1000 fake banknotes in D100 denomination.

He was, according to court records, arrested on 7 December 2007, at Serekunda London Corner but had denied the charges when particulars of his alleged offence were related to him.

He is due in court on 18 June 2008

Alleged rapists get D 25,000 bail bond

One Tony Senghore and Momodou Lamin Secka, all residents of Kanifing South were recently granted a court bail in the sum of D25, 000, each by Principal Magistrate Moses Richards of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court.

The duos are standing trial for alleged rape charge, contrary to the laws of The Gambia.

At the last sitting, Lawyer Edu Gomez, Counsel for the defendants applied for a court bail.

In response, Sgt 870 Touray of the Kanifing Prosecution Unit argued that the duo should be denied bail as the charge is a serious one.

According to him, if the accused persons are granted bail, they may do it again.

However, Principal Magistrate Mosses Richards granted the duo a court bail, with a Gambian surety, who must have a landed property.

2 get D30,000 bail bond

Two people, Musa Marong and Ebrima Mbye, were on Monday, granted bail at the sum of D15,000, by Senior Magistrate Buba Jawo of the Bundung Magistrates’ Court.

The two were separately charged with assault and causing actual bodily harm and wilfull damage to property, both counts are contrary to Sections 228 and 312 sub-Section (1) of the Criminal Code, Laws of The Gambia.

According to the particulars of offence, on or about August 17, 2007, at Mariama Kunda, Kombo North in the Western Region, Musa Marong wilfully and unlawfully assaulted one Ebrima Mbye, with a broken bottle and stabbed him on his hand, thereby causing him actual bodily harm.

The other charge stated that on or about August 17, 2007 at Mariama Kunda Kombo North, in the Western Division, Ebrima Mbye wilfully and unlawfully uprooted maize and cassava plants, valued at D2000, belonging to Musa Marong.

When the charges were read to them both men pleaded not guilty. They were then granted court bail at the sum of D15,000, each with a Gambian surety. The case was adjourned to October 8, for hearing.

Corporal 438 Njie stood in for the IGP.
