Observer Sports has gathered that the former national defender has signed a two-year contract with the Banjul club replacing caretaker coach Faraba Fofana. Mr Fofana, who now serves as team manager of the Gambia Ports Authority FC, confirmed Bonu Johnson’s appointment to Observer Sports yesterday. He revealed that the club’s management were pleased to have finally secured Bonu’s signature after a long chase. Bonu Johnson will be charged with bringing domestic league success to the club, who were relegated from the premier tier of the Gambian football last season. Bonu was made a caretaker of the Gambia Scorpions in March 2008, as Gambia football authorities went in search of a foreign coach to lead the country in their quest for a place in the 2010 World Cup and Nations Cup finals. Barely 24 hours after the Gambia Football Association succeeded in hiring the services of Belgian Paul Put as head coach of the Scorpions, Bonu Johnson, who was later named as the Belgian’s assistant, tendered his resignation. The contract extension will tie the hard-tackling Sohna to the Division 1 side until the end of 2011. “We are very pleased with the player,” the club said in statement. “He is young and a fans’ favorite; and he’s a great ball winner.” Sohna has had a huge impact on Sandefjord’s promotion drive this season helping the team to third position with only four matches remaining. Sillah signed a two-year contract from the Belgian first division giants FC Brussels. Brussel had loaned the 28-year-old diminutive winger to MVV last season. However, after an impressive debut season in the Dutch second tier, MVV decided to negotiate for a permanent deal. “MVV have taken over Ebou Sillah from FC Brussels. Sillah was on loan from Belgium Jupiter League last season. Both teams were negotiating for weeks to turn his loan into a permanent deal, and finally an agreement has been reached,” revealed a statement pasted on the MVV website. Ebou Sillah is currently the longest serving player in the Scorpion squad. Author: by Nanama Keita Momodou Ceesay Pens 2year Contract in Belgium![]() Wednesday, September 10, 2008 Momodou Ceesay alias Zico, former Wallidan and U-17 player has finally signed a 2year contract with Belgian first division outfit, KVC Westerlo. According to reports monitored on the club’s website, the 20 year, tall and lanky striker has signed a 2 year contract with an option for another season. Zico was part of the U-17 football team that won the African title in Banjul and defeated Brazil 3-1 at the World U-17 Cup in Peru in 2005. During the championship Momodou Ceesay was one of the team’s biggest heroes until when they crashed out of the group stages of the championship despite a brilliant performance. Since Peru, Zico was nursing a nee injury until he had to under go surgery which went successful. This could be related to his failure to appear for the Gambia at U-20 level in 2007. KVC Westerlo , founded in 1933, are currently occupying 5th position on the Belgian first division table. Abdourahman, who has also been on trial trips to Norway, told gambiasports.gm that the chance to sign up in Algeria came when he met his agent during Gambia’s game against Mauritania in the recently introduced African Nations Championship for home-based players. “I met up with a Mauritanian agent called Mohammed during the Gambia’s game against Mauritania in the qualifiers for the maiden edition of the African Nations Championship (CHAN). “After watching me play in Nouakchott he met me after the game and told me that he was interested in helping me get a professional club. “At that point in time I was already in talks to sign for Sandefjord of Norway, so I showed no interest in the Mauritanian agent’s offer. “Unfortunately the coach who was trying to get me into Sandefjord was fired and with his departure went my chances too. “But as fate would have it The Gambia was again paired up with Mauritania in the African Youth Championship for Under-20s and when we went to play in Nouakchott I was again approached by the same agent, Mohamed. “Having lost the Sandefjord opportunity I decided to give Mohamed a chance and in a very short time he got me a deal at Mouloudia.” The Gambian Under-20 midfielder said even though his biggest ambition remains playing in Europe he was happy with the Algerian deal. Author: by Nanama Keita Norwich City want OJ KrumahFriday, August 01, 2008 Gambian striker Omar OJ Krumah who has recently signed a contract with Premier League side Portsmouth looks set to join Championship side Norwich City on a loan deal reports monitored on the Western Daily Press have revealed. The 18-year old former Banjul Hawks striker became the first Gambian to sign contract with English Premier League club in Portsmouth. However, it is now understood that Harry Redknapp, who rates the player highly wants him to get experience in the Championship rather than League 1. Krumah has been on trial with Portsmouth this summer, and certainly ticks the impressive pre-season friendly box having won Pompey a penalty in the 1-1 draw against Exeter and creating two goals at Swindon. Speaking to The News last week, Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp said: "OJ has done well, he is only 18 and I think he is a real prospect. "I have already had half a dozen clubs wanting to play him this season, most of them are from the Championship. "He is not ready for the Premier League but he is still young so his time can come." Norwich City play in the Football League Championship (second tier of the English football pyramid). They were founder members of the Premier League in 1991–92, and played in its first three seasons reaching the UEFA Cup 3rd Round, returning for one season in 2004–05. They first won promotion to the Football League First Division in 1972, and have played a total of 18 seasons in the top flight, with a longest continuous spell of nine seasons. Thursday, July 24, 2008 Mustapha Carayol, a Briton of Gambian roots, has left English League One club, Milton Keynes Dons, to sign for Blue Square Premier side, Torquay United, in the Conference National League. The 19-year-old has signed a two-year contract at Plainmoor after just one season with the Dons, having been brought in as one of Paul Ince's first signings. The former Swindon and Macclesfield winger spent most of last season on loan with Crawley Town, making 26 appearances for the team. Carayol trained as a youth player with Swindon Town, before following Paul Ince to Macclesfield Town in 2006. When Ince became manager of Milton Keynes Dons in 2007, he signed Carayol, offering him his first professional contract. He made his first team debut for MK Dons against Sheffield United in the League Cup in August 2007 and has since appeared in one further cup game. In October 2007, he joined Crawley Town on loan to gain further first team experience. On July 13, 2008, he was signed by Blue Square Premier side, Torquay United. His new club, nicknamed the Gulls, is an English association football club based in the seaside resort town of Torquay, Devon. They will begin the 2008-09 season in the Conference National having lost their league status at the end of the 2006-2007 season. Founded in 1899, they joined the Football League in 1927 and spent their entire time in the Football League in the lower divisions. Torquay United prided themselves on being one of the few clubs in the lower English football leagues to remain debt-free despite the debacle of the ITV Digital collapse. Gambian connection Talented midfielder Mustapha Carayol, whose grandfather currently serves as chairman of Independence Electoral Commission in The Gambia, holds a British citizenship. He is however, legible to play for The Gambia, and recently he has been closely watched by the Gambian football authorities. Seedy Kinteh, President of The Gambia Football Association told Observer Sports that the football association is in contact with Carayol. He said the details of the player will be presented to the Scorpions coach who will later invite him for a trial. According to Gambiasports.gm, the 34-year-old midfielder moved back to Cyprus to sign a one-year contract with AEP Paphos, who ply their route in the Cypriot Super League, after being released by the Dutch second division side, FC Omniworld. The former Wallidan, Willem II Tilburg, Al-Hilal and AEK Larnaca player last starred for Gambia Scorpions in March 2007 when Gambia woefully lost 0-2 to Guinea during the qualifier for Ghana 2008 Nations Cup finals. Jatto started his professional career with Willem II in Netherlands in 1995. After 8 successful seasons in which he was a fixed value, he left in the summer of 2003, to sign a lucrative deal with Saudi giants, Al-Hilal. Jatto failed to adapt to life in Asia and he returned back to Willem II in the winter of 2004. After two seasons, Jatto was considered as surplus to requirement and he made a move to Cyprus where he signed for AEK Larnaca. In the summer of 2007, Jatto was shown the exit door by the Cyprus club, and he eventually decided to return to the Netherlands, to sign for a little-known division two side, FC Omniworld. Author: by Nanama Keita Castle Oil Goes to Court for Breach of ContractTuesday, June 10, 2008 Castle, a major company engaged in the petroleum-oil and shipping businesses in The Gambia, is in a legal brawl with one of its ex-employees, Biram Ceesay, over breach of contract. The plaintiff, Mr Ceesay, a former Bosun on one of the vessels owned by Castle, is seeking legal redress in court for the restitution of $32,400 for a total of 108 months and D300,000 for breach of contract at the Kanifing Tribunal chaired by Mr. Jawo. The plaintiff, while outlining his case under the guidance of his counsel, lawyer Darboe, rebuffed the statement of the defendant company. This related to a reduction of operations and a low standard of service. The plaintiff said that at the time of his termination in June 2006 their business was booming and services were at an optimal level. However, while challenging his termination Mr. Ceesay informed the tribunal that only once had he received a letter asking him to leave the captain alone and nothing more after that. The defendant company was represented by lawyer BSM Conteh of Lord’s Chambers. The next sitting will be held on June 26th 2008. The plaintiff, who was a bosun in one of the vessels belonging to Castle Shipping Company, is seeking the restitution of US$32,400 for a period of 108 months, and D300,000 for breach of contract. The case was lodged at the Kanifing Industrial Tribunal, presided over by Principal Magistrate Buba Jawo. Mr Ceesay, who is being represented by lawyer Ousainou Darboe, a senior counsel, rebuffed the statement tendered by the defendant over the reduction of operation and law statement of service. He also alluded that at the time of his termination in June 2006, their business was booming and services were at optimal level. Proving the illegality of his termination, Ceesay informed the tribunal that he could remember receiving a warning letter only once, which had warned him to stay away from the captain of the ship.
