The ceremony was held at the IEA’s headquarters along Kombo Sillah Drive, Churchill’s Town. Speaking at the occasion, Eddison Bella, coordinator of IEA, who spoke at length on the theme, said a society that is composed of individuals who have develop efficient habits and a creative spirit and attitude is more likely to develop and sustain a collective productive mindset. Mr Bella said that such a society enforces rules and an effective policy that reflects on possible future scenarios. According to him, this requires creativity and spiritual guidance. Mr Bella went on to say that the application of human intelligence in order to produce services that are beneficial to mankind requires the use of the talent of private individuals in order to achieve collective goals. He explained that lack of basic principles to guide the society can drive people far away from developmental perspectives. In conclusion, he emphasised that justice must prevail in any community and nation for development to flourish. He then warned that failure to ensure the preponderance of law in society might end up creating an environment where development is stagnated. ‘‘Our university, therefore, is not an exception to this and the only way we can realise this very important component of the university function is to support and nurture initiatives like this,” he said.
Mr Camara concluded his speech by imploring the government, especially the state department responsible for higher education and research, and other bodies, to support the university administration and the students both morally and financially in this noble venture.
