Author: by Sheriff Janko On the ferries Waste bins onboard the ferriesTuesday, July 15, 2008 The GPA has now sanctioned the display of waste bins on the ferries which is a brilliant idea, please keep it up. However, some of these bins are without lids and I cannot fathom that bit of it as what can an invoice of D5000 for all bins requirements do to an organization such as the GPA. The money is not a problem so I see no justification tom supply the ferries with bins that are devoid of lids. Aside that, the cleanliness on the ferries has improved tremendously but there is still a big room for improvement as we still see and encounter rubbish, waste and dirt that could be avoided but nay it is still there. The other day on my weekly trek to Chamen Kerr Bai Dam the ferry we boarded was very dirty and need some deep sweep but the cleaners did not do a good job the night before. The GPA needs to come into grips with their cleaners. Remember, the ports and the ferries may be the first port of call a many a visitor to our shore and a clean efficient ferry will give a very good impression of our country. Health and safety on Barra ferry There is a serious and alive health and safety risk inherent on the Barra Ferry. There is a big unbridged gap on the ferry between the stirs and the generator room on the ferry. People could be mistakenly pushed off board by a stampede or unnoticing normal pull and push within the ferry for embarking or disembarking. The GPA must act fast and now to prevent someone being accidentally tip or push off board. The metal workers and welder men should come on board and fix it on both sides of the ferry before someone losses their life. This opening on the ferry deck could even be more serious when darkness fell and people get preoccupied with life issues not taking into consideration a dodgy ferry rim that could cost you your life. Author: by Momodou Camara Busumbala land dispute case dismissed defendant awarded D5000![]() Monday, May 05, 2008 Brikama High Court Judge, Justice Ngui Mboob-Janneh, last Tuesday dismissed the Busumbala land demolition case filed before her by Dembo Jatta and nine others, against one Pa Jobe, and subsquently awarded D5000 to the defendant, as cost. Justice Ngui Mboob-Janneh said that the issue before the court was none compliant with order 3, rule I, schedule II, rules of the High Court. Her lordship, said paragraph one of the plaintiff’s statement of claim stated that all the plaintiffs were from Busumbala village in the Kombo North District, that they instituted the action for and onbehalf of their families, and that their writ of sermons was not inorder with order III rule I. She said that the court raised an observation and asked both the plaintiff’s and defendant’s counsel to address the court on the issue. Justice Mboob-Janneh, after listening to both parties and reviewed the case, said that an interest common to a class of persons could not be confined on a few of those persons. “They can only mention a similar action on a representative capacity. Order III rule I schedule II, rules of the High Court requires, as mandatory, that it be expressed on the writ”, she said. She added that the plaintiff’s writ in did not comply with the rules. “This court is of the considered opinion that the suit is incompetent and this court lacks jurisdiction to hear the matter. The case is here by being struck out for lack of due conformity with order III rule I. The case is struck out with a cost of D5000 awarded to the defendant”, Justice Mboob-Janneh concluded.
