Gambia bow out of Abidjan qualifier

Tuesday, April 15, 2008
Gambia Scorpions drew goalless with Mauritania on Saturday and eventually crash out of Abidjan 2009 Local Nations Cup qualifier on an away goal rule.

The Scorpions drew 1-1 with their west-African counterparts in the Banjul first-leg encounter, making it a most a for them to cancel out Mauritania’s crucial away goal with at least one of their own in order to stand any chance of qualifying for the inaugural tournament that is designed for home-based players only.

However, the home side settled for goalless draw on Saturday to progress to the next stage at expense of the Scorpions, who played the whole of the second half on ten men after sending off of Steve Biko’s Habib Kunta.

Kabba Jobe’s double revive dying Gamtel

Friday, April 04, 2008
Striker Kaba Jobe scored a goal in each half as struggling Gamtel came from behind to beat Armed Forces 2-1 in their Wednesday league encounter at the Independence Stadium, Bakau.

Armed Forces’ Buba Sama fired his side ahead in the 24th minute before athletic Jobe pulled an equaliser in the 42nd minute with a brilliant header. One minute into the resumption of second half saw Gamtel take the lead with another tricky goal from Kabba.

Armed Forced talismanic forward Landing Darboe was not at his best on Wednesday, but the Soldiers were also made to pay a dear price for squandering their scoring chances.

On the same day, Bakau United drew goalless with Hawks at the Serrekunda East Mini-stadium, whilst Interior and Ports Authority also ended on the same scoreline.
