President Jammeh Threatens to Stop Assisting Foni if…

Thursday, May 15, 2008

President Jammeh told the people of Foni that by 2009 he would stop providing assistance to them if they failed to heed his call to take up agriculture.

He made this statement on Tuesday at a meeting in Ndemban, Foni Berefet. “You cannot be helping people until you yourself become poor. By 2009, I will stop helping from Bullock to Kalagi,” he stated.

The Gambian leader cited the current absence of magnificent non-public infrastructure in the Fonis as a glaring indication of searing poverty, a situation he blamed on the failure of the people of the area to “go back to the land” to earn a living. “How many storey buildings can you find in the Fonis?” he asked.

He went on further to recall his school days, saying that despite living in the urban areas, he used to return to the Fonis to harvest baobab and palm tree fruits to sell for his own welfare.

According to President Jammeh, the youths in Foni are not doing that now, leaving all in the hands of non-Gambians who he said come to harvest their fruits and sell it back to them again. He stressed the importance of food self-sufficiency, saying: “People are saying that I am a doctor and I can cure any sort of sickness but when it comes to hunger, I cannot do anything about it.”

The President used the occasion to call on the youths of Foni, whom he said abandoned the Fonis for fear of witchcraft, to return home, assuring them that there is no longer anything to fear.

Mr. Jammeh revealed that his government would be coming up with a $12m (Twelve million dollars) project to adequately build the capacities of farmers in Foni.

The project, he went on, would provide bore holes and other relevant equipment for them to engage in actual farming for a decent living. “You cannot go on begging all the time for a living,” he said.

From Ndemban, President Jammeh and entourage proceeded to Sibanor in Foni Bintang where he visited the CCF water pyramid.

Impressed by the project, he vowed to establish seven of such projects each year across the country with the ultimate objective of providing clean and potable water to the populace.

Meanwhile, President Jammeh will today continue his tour with a visit to the Holland Foundation-sponsored clinic in Kololi from where he will proceed to the buffer zone in Tallinding for a victory celebration.

The Gambian leader will tomorrow end his ‘Dialogue with the People tour’ with a mass victory celebration at the 22nd July Square in Banjul.

We Can’t Provide Employment for all but…. President Jammeh

Wednesday, May 14, 2008

The issue of the employment situation in the country has not failed to claim mention in President Jammeh’s discourse as he traverses the country in the ongoing Dialogue with the People tour. The President maintained that government could not provide employment for all but indicated that he would do his utmost to try to create employment opportunities for Gambians.

Addressing a mass political rally on Monday in Kalagi, Foni Jarrol, Western Region, President Jammeh noted that there is no country in the world that has provided employment for all its citizens.

He called on the Gambian youth to learn skills so as to attune themselves to the drumbeat of progress for the development of the country.

Mr. Jammeh revealed that before long, his government would come up with a project called Green Project, which would provide employment for at least 500 youth.

The Gambian leader vowed to take the country out of poverty given the requisite support from the citizenry, most especially the youths who, he added, are the backbone of every country’s progress. “With the support of the youths of this country, this country can be transformed to a modern country that can become an envy to the entire African continent,” he enthused.

He acknowledged that without the participation of all in nation building, the wheels of progress would move too slowly for the country’s good. “The youths should not be left roaming while their parents strive for their living,” the President added.

Meanwhile, President Jammeh yesterday received a special envoy from Guinea Bissau at his home village in Kanilai. Joao Gomenz Cardoso is the Minister and Director of Cabinet of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau.

Speaking to journalists shortly after meeting the Gambian leader, Mr. Cardoso said his visit to the country is to lay the groundwork for new co-operation between the two republics.

Referring to the already existing fruitful diplomatic co-operation between The Gambia and Guinea-Bissau, he said that this time around, they want to go further than that by entering into economic and socio-economic co-operation for the benefit of the two countries.

He revealed that his visit is also to convey special invitation of the President of Guinea Bissau to the Gambian leader to pay a state visit to the Republic of Guinea Bissau.

Making a difference (Be a unique and indipendent youth)

Friday, January 11, 2008
There is always a saying that goes as this: "Just because one man tries to swim and drowns in the process does not mean that all men can’t swim".

I have seen a lot of talented young kids out there trying to make a difference either to themselves or to their families, but they lack four common things which are; vision, courage; determination and confidence.

First and foremost, you have to sit and ask yourself "what is it that I have in me that is so unique that I can use to make a difference in my life and in the lives of others", because every one is given a special gift.

It is only when you realize this that you can make something out of a gift that you have never ever imagined. You should always believe that there is no one like you. No one has the same abilities, personalities, or feelings as you do and nobody else ever will. Your creator has given you special gifts, but it’s up to you to use them well and wisely. The only one who can make the most out of your potential is YOU. You don’t have to depend on other people to help you discover your dreams; it is only you that know the limits your talents can take you.

To be successful, you have to have a dream and vision of what you want, can do and are capable of achieving, and how far you can go with it, because without a dream or vision, there is no way for you to move forward. After working through that, try to have courage drawn from your inner self and maybe through the help of your friends and family.

This because having people to encourage and give you confidence will help you in many ways.

However, always try to remember this; "those who cannot add to the uplift and improvement of your life, but instead try to draw you back are your distractors, not your friends". So you should always try to move with people who have the same thinking as you do or even higher so that you will think farther. Don’t be little; be big in both your creative and thinking. With this you will grow to achieve your goals.

Furthermore, you have to have a target to your vision. Determination is part of the key to success. It is what most young talented kids’ lack. They try to depend on either friends or families for help, which has consequences, either good or bad at the end.

I want you to know that in each and everyone, there is a talent waiting to be discovered and released. If you have tried once and failed, don’t wait for someone else to make it for you. If you do this remember that there will always be a reason for you not to feel good enough, and this is because it is not from your handwork.

And you will start feeling sorry for yourself and all the bad memories you will seep from your veins will forever seem endless to you. And I don’t think that is what you want, or is it? So you have to start to discover yourself, don’t be dependent. It is the first difficult but with persistence, you will later adjust to it.

The eyes are the windows of your soul as you are the window of your future. So you have to start planning now by having dreams and visions. If you have tried and failed just stop looking at where you have been.  Instead begin to look at where you are going. If you are just about to begin and you don’t know where to start then remember that "you either find a way or make one."

Hearts Of Oak seek new coach

Wednesday, December 19, 2007
Ghanaian outfit Accra Hearts of Oak are on the hunt for a new coach

Ghanaian club side Accra Hearts of Oak are reportedly in the hunt for a new head coach after interim manager Abdul Karim Zito failed to impress the club hierarchy during his tenure.

The team has been without a permanent boss since last year's departure of Kostandinov Dodrev, who now handles Nigerian League side Heartland of Owerri.

Incidentally, the Romanian-born coach won the One Touch Premier league title for the capital outfit last season, but his contract was not renewed for reasons unspecified by the Ghanaian club.

Abdul Karim Zito, who was appointed as caretake coach, has not shown any sign that he will be able to guide the team towards retaining the trophy this season.

Hearts of, popularly referred to as "The Phobians", have been able to garner only four points from a possible twelve, and pressure is now mounting on the board to employ the services of a competent coach.

This need was fully expressed by the vice-chairman of the club side, Frank Nelson, during an interview with Ghanasoccernet.com "We need a competent coach and not necessarily a white man or a foreigner," he said. "We have spoken to six coaches both local and foreign," the vice chairman added.

He also refused to divulge the identities of those in contention for the position saying the coaches will not be favorably disposed to that act.

"At this moment we don't want to disclose any names because some coaches would not like their names to be mentioned when talks are still being held," he clarified.

"We can not give a fixed date for the new coach but I think a choice will be made before the league goes on break for the African Cup of Nations." Hearts of Oak will have to get their acts together as quickly as possible to avoid an early elimination from next year's CAF Champions League.
