Current Feed ContentNo 1 Sport Shop donates NISAMonday, April 21, 2008 The No 1 Sport Shop in Banjul over the weekend make a presentation of a giant trophy and four footballs to National Inter-departmental Sports Association as part of its contribution to the success of the sixth edition of the inter-departmental football championship which kicked off last night. Akram Shour, proprietor of Sports Shop, said the gesture is part of his objective to contribute to the promotion and development of Gambian sports. “Its a pleasure to make such a gesture to NISA in my appreciate of good work in the country,” he said. “I always say it. Without the existence of such sports associations in the country, my business will not grow. Therefore, helping sport associations is helping my self my business indirectly.” Receiving the items, Pastor Joseph, member of NISA executive committee, thanked the sport shop for fulfilling its social responsibility. He noted that the gesture could not have come at a better time when the association’s annual football tournament has just commenced. Author: by Hatab Fadera Link Yields 110 Quality Footballs![]() Monday, February 11, 2008 Following a relationship built between Kerr Mama Sports Association and the Washington State Sport Association, a consignment of 110 quality footballs was recently received by the Kerr Mama Sports Association. The partnership came through the intermediary role of Baboucarr Jallow, a former Gambian FIFA referee who is now refereeing in the United States, and was built on a mutual basis. According to the Kerr Mama Sports Association, the consignment of 110 balls, will be distributed in the entire Upper Nuimi District including 53 villages, schools in the district and the district team. The Washington State Sport Association will continue supporting Kerr Mama in terms of sporting materials mainly football items. In return Kerr Mama will have to utilize the materials properly. “The relationship will be further strengthened through cultural exchange programmes during which the two sister associations will learn from each other in terms of both Sports and Culture,” explained the Kerr Mama Sports Committee. They commended Baboucarr Jallow for his special interest in the District adding that his efforts and continued support to Upper Nuimi have given them a big leap. “Sincere appreciation goes to Timothy Brusch president of Washington State Sport Association and the entire membership for being positive in helping to champion the course and direction of this relationship,” The Department of State for Youths and Sports was also applauded for making it easy for them to obtain the balls through a duty waiver. Source: The Point GFA Receives Sports Materials![]() Thursday, September 06, 2007 The Gambia Football Association (GFA) has benefited from a consignment of football items from a partnership between The Gambia and Iceland Red Cross Societies. The 20ft container, containing 720 football shoes, 350 Training shorts, 2520 Training jerseys, 500 other training items, 520 footballs, 1800 T-shirts, 325 Table Tennis items and 740 second hand cloths worth D144, 550.25, was presented to GFA yesterday in a ceremony held at the Gambia Red Cross Headquarters in Kanifing. Explaining the process Katim Nget, Programme Manager of the Gambia Red Cross Society said that it all started last February when the Icelandic Football Association consulted the Gambia Red Cross expressing their wish to assist The Gambia with sport materials. “The intention is to ensure that sport is develop in the grassroots level.” Nget highlighted. He commended the GFA and the Gambia Ports Authority for their commitment in making sure the material arrived in the country. In receiving the items, Alhagie Mass Axi Gai, 2nd Vice-President of the GFA said that equipment is vital in sports adding that the materials will go a long way in helping the GFA as it will lessen their financial pressure. He said the Gambia Red Cross has not only stopped from looking at the welfare of players in terms of offering First aid services but has also taken an added challenge of providing football materials to the FA. “In creating more partnership, we hope to build on the cooperation created between the Gambia Football Association and Icelandic Football Association” he noted. Secretary of State for Youths, Sports and Religious Affairs, Sheikh Omar Faye, commended the Gambia Red cross for creating the smart partnership in trying to address major problems. He urged all Gambians and other institutions to emulate the gesture. As a sign of appreciation, the Gambia Red Cross also presented 70 overalls to the Gambia Ports Authority for their Assistance during the process of bringing the material into the country. The presentation was also attended by Executive Secretary of the National Sports Council, Donald Sock, Permanent Secretary Department of State for Youth, Sports and Religious Affairs, Ebou Joof, Secretary General of the Gambia Red Cross William Jammeh and the Gambia Football Association Staff.
