He proposed to increase the number of master of sciences and PhDs as a superior stage in the formation of human resources in Cuba,” Dr Hechavarria revealed.<br /> <br /> “To this end, an academic committee was created in The Gambia. It was responsible for the planning, organisation, control and assessment of the whole process. Nowadays, there are 112 collaborators enrolled in the masters programme and there are 6 modalities for the master of sciences degrees,” he elaborated.<br /> <br /> Dr Hechavarria told the gathering that the continuity of the masters programme is a great challenge, and that they will do their best to present new and better researches.<br /> “Resulting from this graduation, the number of health professionals with masters degree in The Gambia rose from 15 to 39. This is a [source] of great pride, not only because of the opportunities and success that it represents to us all, but also the increase in quality regarding medical assistance to the Gambian people,” he added.<br /> <br /> “Now, The Gambian health system can count on this task force to accomplish more complex commitments. He said that education is a training which is given by suitable habits to the first instinct of virtue in children when pleasure and pain are rightly implanted in non-rational souls. PEO Jatta said that education calls for positive outcomes by all means and at all times, adding that any activity that does not positively support the improvement of the lives of people in any way cannot be considered to be educational.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal" ><span>He said that drinking alcohol, homosexuality, lack of respect or regard for others or authority, dishonesty, tribalism and racism cannot be considered to be educational in any way shape or form.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal" ><span>According to Mr. Jatta, education makes people easy to lead but difficult to drive, easy to govern but impossible to enslave.<span>  </span></span></p><p class="MsoNormal" ><span>In her annual speech the headmistress of Advance Nursery and Lower Basic School, Mbayang Jobe, said the graduation and prize-giving ceremony in her school was two-fold because it saw the graduation of the nursery students and the inauguration of the schools newly equipped computer laboratory.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal" ><span>She said the graduation in her school was a remarkable process, adding that the school has grown to a national standard as it is qualified to sit for the National Assessment Test for Grade Three. Advance Nursery and Lower Basic started operations in 2005 and since then, the school has witnessed rapid development both in infrastructure and student population.<br /> <br /> In his welcoming remarks, Yusuf Ayin, head teacher of the school said, the event marked another milestone in the history of the school, noting that since its establishment, the school has contributed a lot to the educational sector of this country.<br /> <br /> “Many students have passed through the school and are now working in important institutions in the country and our target is to contribute immensely to the socio-economic development of this country,” he said.<br /> <br /> He added that, the number of subjects taught in the school make it second to none in Region One.<br /> <br /> In her annual report, Mbaya Jobe, head of the school, said graduation in every school is a period when students are rewarded for their efforts. Currently the school has an enrolment of 826 students of which 375 are girls and 445 are boys.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal" ><span>She said this was compared to the 2006\2007 enrolment of 730 students. This shows an increase in enrolment of 96 students representing 11% of the current school enrolment in 2007\2008.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal" ><span>She pointed out that the school is a basic cycle school with lower, upper and senior components, </span></p><p class="MsoNormal" ><span>“The lower sector operate 11 classes with grade 1-6, and the upper sector operates 3 classes that grade 7-9.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal" ><span>She added that the senior sector operates 3 classes that are grade 10-12. “I am grateful to Allah that the performances of both sectors were extremely good compared to the performance of many Arab schools,” she said.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal" ><span><span> </span>Mrs. Cham pointed out that in Grade 12, 14 students sat to the certificate exams and all registered 100% passes with no failure. In Grade 9, 28 students sat for the final exams 25 students passed with 3 failures. She added that June 2008 was the first time that students sat national AMANA certificates exams and they are now awaiting results.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal" ><span><span> </span>Speaking earlier, the guest speaker, Sheikh Omar Qurasish who is among the founder fathers of the foundation, highlighted the achievements the school has enjoyed. He said the foundation offers sponsorship for 16 students to pursue the diploma course in <country-region w:st="on" >Qatar</country-region> and <country-region w:st="on" ><place w:st="on" >United Arab Emirates</place></country-region>. In other words, 10 years children will be getting ready to enter high school and by the time they reach the age of 18,  they will be fully ready to enter any English or French university,” he stated.  <br /> <br /> According to him, DELF, is an international examination conducted by the French government through the  Alliance Françaises network  for non french speaking people throughout the world.  As such, he explained, SBEC uses this examination as an independent way of guiding the level of students in french. He recalled that the highest score recorded by SBEC during the examination was 85% successful.<br /> <br /> He went on to say that the school will provide a computer for each student and every teacher in the primary school, with the vision of extending this to the nursery and high school in the next academic year.The head teacher commended Mr Yusupha Jaiteh for his immence contribution.<br /> <br /> Advising the graduands, he told them to start embarking on an exciting new journey of leaving when they will begin primary next academic year. He urged parents to prepare them for the transition from kindergarten to primary school, as the students will have to face a new  experience.<br /> <br /> Mr Colley finally commended parents for their tiredless efforts in making the school an outstanding success among others. He reminded the parents that they have a vital role to play in supporting the tremendous efforts deployed by the teachers to inculcate knowledge and values to their children. <br /> <br /> For his part, Mr Ousman Momodou Cham, program manager Action aid-The Gambia, who also the guest speaker, informed the graduands to count themselves  lucky, as millions around the globe are un able to have access to education.<br /> <br /> He also expressed the need to build a bridge between the traditional and modern ways of educating our children, without which he said, they may end up of having “educated illiterate” with little understanding of who they are, social justice and most importantly with  little understanding and respect for the values of their society.  He finally thanked parents for their outstanding contributions towards the achievement of the school and admonished graduands to be dynamic and hard working. <br /> <br /> The ceremony was punctuated by  presentation  of poems and martial art sessions by the school children.
