Current Feed ContentJolly Riders Donates Over 300 more Bicycles to SchoolsFriday, October 10, 2008 The Jolly Riders, a charitable foundation in the Speaking at the presentation ceremony held at Gunjur the Coordinator Mr. Babucarr Boye Touray said the foundation was founded in 2005 to help Gambian schools by providing children with bicycles and education materials. He revealed that so far over 22 schools have benefited from the charity. He advised the beneficiary schools to put the bike into good use. He promised their resolve in helping more schools across the country with bicycles. The chairman of the board of Trustees Mr. Barry Wright advised the parents the parents and school authorities to ensure that the bicycles are put into good use. He also encouraged the students to be mindful when riding to and from school. Senior Education Officer from the Department of State for Basic and Secondary Education described the donation as timely. He said that it will ease the mobility constrain of the students thus enabling them to reach school on time. He assured the Jolly Riders of his department’s support while acknowledging the donation. Author: Alieu Jabang Gunjur Host West African Development Organisation of Fisheries MeetingFriday, October 10, 2008 Members of the West African Development Organisation of Fisheries on Wednesday held a one-day meeting at Gunjur in Kombo South. The meeting was meant is part of the association’s efforts in contributing towards the development of fisheries sector in the sub region. Participants at the meeting were drawn from almost all the countries of the West African sub region. Addressing the meeting, Chairman of the association Mr. Charles Batalevita thanked their host for the warm welcome. According to him, the aims and objectives of the association is to promote and develop small scale fishing projects in Africa and to ensure quality fishing as well as to create employment for youths. He noted that the association was formed by the 16 member states of the West Africa. Dely Lucieu, Director of the association, hails members of the Gunjur Community Fisheries project for maintaining the structure build by the Japanese government some five years ago. He encouraged them to continue working hard. For his part, Mr. Alieu Touray Chairman of Gunjur Community Fisheries Centre informed the meeting about his committee, which he said compose of 34 members and nine sub committee members. He revealed that the Centre is creating employment for many West African nationals. The chief of the area Sheriff Ajay Janneh commended the West African Development Organisation of Fisheries for choosing The Gambia and Gunjur in particular to host the meeting. Author: Lamin Darboe Gunjur Man Remanded for Threatening ViolenceWednesday, October 08, 2008 The Brikama Magistrates’ Court recently remanded in custody one Yaya Drammeh of Gunjur village for allegedly threatening to kill one Omar Jallow, a charge he denied. According to the particulars of the offence, on or about the 18th September 2008 at Gunjur village the Accused Yaya Drammeh threatened to kill one Omar Jallow with a knife. Meanwhile he was remanded at the Mile 2 State central prison until the next adjourned date. In a separate development one Ebrima Ndure of Brikama was also recently arraigned at the Brikama Magistrates’ Court charged with stealing, a charge he denied. The alleged offence revealed that on or about 14th September 2008 at Brikama town the accused Ebrima Ndure stole a gas bottle head valued at D1500 being the property of one Samba Jallow. Speaking on behalf of the donors, Sedia Touray, a friend of the donors urged the people of Gunjur to pray for the late nurse Mr. Sonko for improving the Health Centre. Speaking to Pointsports recently Mr. Buba Bojang alias Bada, chairman of Gunjur Sports Development Association, stressed the importance of the web-site adding that, “it will facilitate readers from different areas to know the situation on the ground as far as Gunjur sports is concerned.” Mr. Bojang then thanked Mr. Lamin Jammeh and Peta for providing this web site for (GYSA). Mr Darboe is a native of coastal Briefing Entertainment at his studio in Gunjur, Janneh Kafo Radio Station, Mr Darboe highlighted his past activities in music promotion in The Gambia and the world at large. “It has always been my dream to be part of the music industry in my life. According to reports, Alhagie Sabaki Touray, who has served in his position for over a decade, was removed on grounds of advancing years and potential incapability of discharging the functions of his office efficiently. Author: By Lamin Darboe Pa Jammeh, alias Beckham, Rising Star![]() Tuesday, September 16, 2008 Born in 1993 in Gunjur, Pa Jammeh started playing football at the Gunjur Junior Nawettan Championship with a team called Manchester United in 2004 and won the league title the same year. His talents and skills attracted late Pa Jobe FC in 2007 and he played for the team at senior Nawettan level. While at the team, they won both league and super cups. He is currently the team captain of the club. He earned himself a place in the Gunjur U-17 team selection tournament geared towards the selection of the Gambia U-17 team and succeeded in impressing U17 Coach Tarik Siagy. Unfortunately, he could not made it pass the first stages of the final selection of the present Gambia U-17 team. But delighted Pa Jammeh, who was very content with being selected for the first stages despite not making it, stated that he will be ready for fresh challenges this time around. He commended teammates, Coach Hatab Jobe, Committee member in Gunjur and brother, Bakary Jammeh for their unflinching support and wonderful work.
