This follows the removal of Alkalo Sabaki Touray on reported health grounds and the subsequent appointment of Alkalo Sulayman Touray.</span></p> <p class="MsoNormal" ><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;" >Addressing thousands of people at the official inauguration of the new Alkalo of Gunjur Sulayman on Friday, Governor Sanneh said anyone who do not recognise the appointment of the new Alkalo will face the full force of the law.</span></p> <p class="MsoNormal" ><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;" >“The community needs peace, understanding and unity in order to develop. No person, group or whatever will be allowed to jeopardise the peace that we continue to enjoy,” he warned.</span></p> <p class="MsoNormal" ><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;" >According to Governor Sanneh, the Village Development Committee must put their house in order or else it will be destroyed as stated in the Local Government Act. Barrow, alias KKB, said Mrs. Culson’s death was a source of great heartbreak to many people in the village. He said that Mrs. Culson first visited The Gambia in 1994 and following a visit to Gunjur decided to help and support the village.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal" ><span>She built a four-classroom block at </span><span>Gunjur</span><span>Lower</span><span>Basic</span><span>School</span><span> and furnished it fully with many materials. The block can accommodate over 200 children.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal" ><span>According to KKB, Mrs. Culson was like a mother, a sister and a friend to all Gambians and Gunjur in particular.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal" ><span>He thanked the family and the church of the late Mrs. Culson for their support and contribution to the development of Gunjur.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal" ><span>When contacted, a member of the parent/teacher association, Mr. Momodou Bojang, said he still could not believe his ears when he heard about the death of his friend Beryl McKenna Culson. He said that the people of his area remember her sweet charity every evening.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal" ><span>Malong Darboe, a prefect in </span><span>Gunjur</span><span>Upper</span><span>Basic</span><span>School</span><span>, said Mrs. Culson was like their grandmother during their days in the lower basic school. The money, he added, was collected from individuals.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal" ><span>For his part, Mr. Abdou K. Touray, chairman of the </span><stockticker><span>VDC</span></stockticker><span>, said his committee has proven beyond reasonable doubt that they are capable and deserved the opportunity to serve in their village development committee.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal" ><span>He said despite all the oppositions, the committee has and will continue to deliver beyond expectation. The beneficiaries are Kaur Upper Basic, Kaur Senior Secondary and Jimbara schools.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal" ><span>Speaking at the presentation ceremony held at Gunjur the Coordinator Mr. Babucarr Boye Touray said the foundation was founded in 2005 to help Gambian schools by providing children with bicycles<span>  </span>and education materials.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal" ><span>He revealed that so far over 22 schools have benefited from the charity. He advised the beneficiary schools to put the bike into good use. He promised their resolve in helping more schools across the country with bicycles.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal" ><span>The chairman of the board of Trustees Mr. Barry Wright advised the parents the parents and school authorities to ensure that the bicycles are put into good use. He also encouraged the students to be mindful when riding to and from school. </span></p><p class="MsoNormal" ><span>Senior Education Officer from the Department of State for Basic and Secondary Education described the donation as timely. He said that it will ease the mobility constrain of the students thus enabling them to reach school on time.
