The State has on Tuesday filed a notice for the discontinuation of his case over two counts of stealing. Momodou Lamin Sonko was earlier arraigned before Principal Magistrate B.Y. Camara for allegedly stealing D1,593.307, being proceeds realised from the leasing of construction equipment to Kharafi & Sons but had failed to render the money to the owner. He was also alleged to have stolen the sum of $ 121,665.35, being proceeds realised from the leasing of construction equipment to Kharafi & Sons but failed to render the same to the owner. In applying for the discontinuation of the case, Emmanuel Fagbenle, the Director of Public Prosecution, informed the court that the State had an intention to discontinue the case and his application was granted. Meanwhile, the alleged offences were said to have taken place between 2001 and 2007. Author: By Modou Sanyang Inferno claims over D1M worth of materials![]() Wednesday, December 12, 2007 A serious fire disaster ravaged one Ousman Ceesay’s carpentry workshop, located between the TAF Construction building supply division and Banjul Oxygen (just behind H.G. Gambia Ltd), along Mamadi Manjang Highway. The sad incident occurred on Thursday around 9:00 pm. The inferno totally destroyed valuable materials comprising 4 big machines, drilling machines, handsaws, hand drills, hand tools,and other materials such as 26 panel doors, and 26 cupboards belonging to Charles Jaw Memorial Academy, all estimated at over one million dalasis Speaking to the Daily Observer, Ousman Ceesay, proprietor of the carpentry workshop said that the cause of the incident is not yet known to him. He explained that he was informed at around 9:00 pm that his workshop was on fire while at home. “I rushed to the scene and met firefighters from Serrekunda fire station at the scene trying to contain the fire. They tried hard but could not make it. The whole carpentry workshop has been burnt to ashes,” he narrated in a pathetic tone. Completely affected by the blazing inferno that destroyed all his belongings, Mr Ceesay seized the opportunity to call on the NGOs, government institutions, philanthropists, and the general public to help him to overcome this disastrous situation. Author: by Assan Sallah HG & Sons Marketing Manager, Proprietor Reassure Public![]() Tuesday, September 11, 2007 Following the recent HG Electronics incident that claimed the life of a young man, both the proprietor and Marketing Manager have apparently resolved to allay possible fears that the public might have as a consequence, saying that the incident was nothing more than an accidental explosion that resulted to fatal injuries to the late Mr. Sarr. Recounting the mishap to our reporter who was taken on a conducted tour at the HG offices, the Marketing Manager, Mr. Joseph Mendy, explained that the incident happened when the late Ebrima Sarr was refilling a fire extinguisher that someone brought from outside, adding that the fire bottle was not of British standard, unlike their products. “Here at HG and Sons, anything we sell has to be British standard. We have customers from all walks of life because of our quality products,” he said. He added that it was due to their campaign for people to use fire extinguishers that the company had to suffer such great loss. For his part the proprietor, Mr. Habib Gitteh, who could not hold back tears, described late Mr. Sarr’s death as a double loss to him as both a half brother and boss. The distraught Mr. Gitteh rounded up by reasoning that the loss of a human being is more sorrowful than that of the asset of HG. Mr. Kebba Bojang, whose dining spot has now carved an enviable position for itself as a perfect place to be for unforgettable gastronomic experience, is now hoping for restorative justice in a case he instituted against two youths for vandalizing his properties. Alhaji Bah and Kebba Ceesay were on Monday arraigned at the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court on charges of causing damage to property, wandering and acting in a violent behaviour in a public place likely to cause a breach of the peace. Adducing the facts of the matter, the prosecution officer, Sgt. Jahateh, recounted that the two youths had gone on an escapade at the 4 Seasons Fried Chicken Restaurant and, as a result damaged some chairs therein. Meanwhile, the two had pleaded guilty to causing willful damage to property and not guilty to charges of idling and acting in a disorderly manner. To enable them enjoy freedom in the meantime, magistrate Moses Richards granted each of them court bail in the sum of D10,000 with two Gambians as sureties but the sureties must meet all the bail conditions.
