Alleged Rape Suspect in Court

One AlasanBah, who was suspected of raping an eight-old girl, was recently arraignedbefore Magistrate Kumba Sallah-Camara of the Bundung Magistrates’ Court on arape charge.Accordingto the particulars of the offence, the accused Alasan Bah on 18thMay 2008 at Kololi raped an eight-old girl(name withheld). Bench Warrant Against A Suspect

Slain youth laid to rest

The body of the late Cherno Jagne, who was reportedly murdered in a violent assault in Banjul on Sunday morning, was laid to rest yesterday at the Old Jeswang Cemetery. Relatives, friends and other sympathisers paid their last respect to the youngster at the Independence Drive Mosque in Banjul, before accompaning the coffin to the cemetery in Kanifing Municipality. Meanwhile, his suspected killer, identified as Dawda Bah, has been already arrested by the personnel of the Gambia Police Force.

Alleged Rape Suspect Remanded

One Modou Sowe was on Thursday remanded in custody by Magistrate John Njie of the Brikama Magistrates’ Court for the offence of rape. According to the particulars of the offence, the accused on 11April 2008 at Brikama Nyambai allegedly raped a 13- year-old girl name (withheld). Although he denied the charge, he was nonetheless remanded in custody. He is expected back in court soon.

Fraud at Water Resources?

Leaks reaching the Daily Observer indicated that one Alasana Drammeh, an accountant at the Department of State for Water Resources, has been accused of absconding with at least D296,000. The absconder, sources added, had drawn payment vouchers which were signed at the department with supporting documents. Suspect in police net Amadou Jallow, Imam of Kuntaur Village, Central River Region, was reported to have died of multiple stabbing on Monday, at around  7:30 am.
